OpenAI has shut down Sora, its AI video generation platform, discontinuing both the consumer app and developer API with no replacement or migration path announced. Sora launched publicly in December 2024 after more than a year of restricted preview access. The shutdown came within months of that launch and has already severed at least one enterprise partnership: Disney, which had integrated Sora into production creative workflows, ended its OpenAI partnership as a direct result.

Any enterprise partnership built on API access collapses when the API does. OpenAI has not indicated whether further partner losses are expected or whether a successor product is planned.
